UC MainStreet North wins Cincinnati Design Award
Woolpert's work on Lindner Hall earns Landscape Architecture and Community Planning Merit Award
The beauty of the University of Cincinnati's campus continues to turn heads, this time netting design, architecture and engineering firm Woolpert a Cincinnati Design Award for its work on the MainStreet North Plaza project.
Woolpert was awarded a Landscape Architecture and Community Planning Merit Award at the Cincinnati Design Awards on Thursday, Nov. 12.
The MainStreet North Plaza serves as the hub at the center of UC’s main campus, connecting MainStreet to the new Lindner Hall, home of the Carl H. Lindner College of Business. Woolpert provided structural engineering for Lindner Hall and provided planning, design and landscape architecture, as well as civil, electrical and structural engineering for the plaza.
The judges were impressed by how the project tied together several elements of the UC Master Plan, including the proper completion of the landscape concept created by George Hargreaves and the university’s sustainability strategy, according to a press release issued by Woolpert and published on mysanantonio.com.
The project was a well-executed, interdisciplinary team effort from landscape architects and engineers throughout the firm, Woolpert Senior Landscape Architect Bruce Rankin said.
"Our goal was to resolve this complex site and engage green infrastructure, while keeping the artistry of the design at the forefront," Rankin said. "We are pleased with how it all came together and with how well it’s serving the university today."
The award adds to a long list of accolades earned by UC, which has been recognized as one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world by Forbes.

Langhorne has color blindness, so this is a question he often asks himself and was a challenge he wanted to address. This project was done through the Experiential Explorations Program (EEP).
