Be #BoldlyBearcat and roll up your sleeve during the UC All-Campus Blood Drive
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is calling on the Bearcat community to support the local blood supply ahead of the holiday season and roll up their sleeves during the University of Cincinnati All-Campus Blood Drive.
Students, faculty, staff and fans of UC are encouraged to donate blood, platelets or plasma during the UC All-Campus blood drive, beginning Monday, Nov. 16. All donors will receive a free UC blanket.
Hoxworth donor buses will be on campus the entire week. Buses will be on McMicken Commons from Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20. Additional blood drives will be held at UC Clermont on Monday, Nov. 16 and at UC Blue Ash on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
“With the holiday season fast approaching, it is critical that blood banks build a stable supply of blood products. While the rest of us will be busy, the need for blood never takes a holiday,” said Jackie Marschall, spokesperson for Hoxworth. “Though the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how the UC campus operates, we’re glad that we can still host these lifesaving events with extra safety precautions in place.”
Hoxworth is also offering unique opportunities for specific donation types in Tangeman University Center’s Atrium, with a special Convalescent Plasma drive being held on Wednesday, Nov. 18th and a platelet-only drive on Friday, Nov. 20.
Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals. The winter months mark a difficult time for blood banks across the U.S., as donor turnout typically decreases due to holidays, bad weather and flu season.
Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors. Schedule an appointment at any of the University of Cincinnati drives, or call (513) 451-0910.
To donate convalescent plasma, donors must first fill out a questionnaire online.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home.
