UC Public Safety Director and Chief of Police James Whalen recognizes Emergency Communications Dispatcher Ted Langdon for his skillful use of the Bearcat Guardian App.
A University of Cincinnati police dispatcher recently received the Rave Mobile Safety SmartSave Award for skillfully using the Bearcat Guardian app to assist a student in need.
UC Police Division Emergency Communications dispatcher Ted Langdon received a message on the Bearcat Guardian app, UC’s campus safety app, in late September from a student who was attempting to harm herself. The student did not want to provide her location and did not want help. Langdon used the GPS location provided through the app to determine the student’s general location and the building she was likely in and dispatched officers and emergency medical services to the student’s location.
Langdon continued to speak with the student through the app, and was able to persuade her to give her room number. Thanks to his efforts, police and EMS found the student and were able to provide the help she needed.
“We congratulate Ted for receiving this award, and are proud to recognize him for his expert use of the Bearcat Guardian app, which may well have saved a student’s life,” said UC Public Safety Director and Chief of Police James Whalen.
Rave Mobile Safety, the company that created the Rave Guardian app, uses the SmartSave Award to recognize call takers and responders for using Rave products to positively impact a situation. Dispatcher Langdon’s supervisor nominated him for the award.
“I am honored to have been nominated and selected for the SmartSave award. I am always glad when I can help members of the UC Community get the assistance they need, and the Guardian app helped me do that in this situation. Anyone needing help should always feel they can call or message us at any time and we are happy to help them,” Dispatcher Langdon said.
