First patient enrolled in UC/UC Health Moderna vaccine trial tells his story
Jarelle Marshall, the first patient administered a dose in the UC/UC Health Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial was interviewed by CNN about his experience. Marshall received the first dose on August 25, 2020 with a follow up dose about four weeks later.
When asked by CNN host Don Lemon about what getting a dose was like, Marshall said, "Other than a sore arm I didn't have any really negative side effects. After the second injection, the day after, my temperature rose a couple degrees around 99 for about a day which made me a little nervous. I was checking my temperature every hour or two. But after that, you know, I was fine. I didn't get sick or didn't have any problems."
Marshall also said that one of the reasons he volunteered for the trial was to set an example for his son.
"I always tell my son, what really matters is what you do when people aren't looking."
