The University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) has named David McGlynn as director of marketing and communication.

McGlynn joins the college July 5, 2022, with more than 20 years’ experience in marketing leadership for several iconic brands, including Subway restaurants, Yum! Brands, Staples and United/Mayflower. He has also worked with brands such as Southwest Airlines, Aetna, Waste Management and McDonald’s at four different award-winning advertising agencies.

In 2020, McGlynn was recognized as a Top 50 Global Marketer while he was chief strategist of Swivel, a business consultancy, where he worked most recently. Prior to that role, he was the senior vice president of strategy and marketing at Planes Companies, a Cincinnati-based moving, storage and logistics company.

“I am very excited to be joining the team at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science,” McGlynn said. “With all the innovation and growth at the college, it’s a great time to be part of CEAS, and I look forward to leveraging my expertise and enthusiasm in collaborating with the dean, the faculty, marketing team, students, alumni and co-op partners in continuing that momentum.”

In 2017, McGlynn’s culture and leadership training was published in Jon Gordon and Amy P. Kelly’s “The Energy Bus Field Guide” as a featured case study. His leadership team-building work also helped Planes in being recognized as a Top Workplace in Cincinnati for seven consecutive years.

McGlynn has been a guest speaker and lecturer for a marketing class at the University of Indiana, at the Connect CMO Leadership Summit in Chicago, and at the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business.

“CEAS has so many great stories to tell, and I am thrilled that David has joined our team,” said John Weidner, CEAS dean. “His marketing background, entrepreneurial mindset, and enthusiasm to spread our message will raise our profile among our many constituents. Our future is bright — and we want people to know about it.”
