President Pinto’s statement on Supreme Court’s decision regarding affirmative action

We will examine this decision closely, but we expect it to have little impact on UC’s admissions practices. We use a holistic admissions process, and our focus will remain on reducing barriers to higher education and creating opportunities for anyone who can be successful here — regardless of race and regardless of socio-economic background. We want to continue to ensure that we are providing opportunities and a pathway to education for all students. 

All indications are that the number of underrepresented students at UC will continue to expand, and we consider this growth further evidence that we are meeting our mission as a public university.
