UC Clermont Respiratory Care students win 2023 Ohio State Sputum Bowl
Team moves on to national competition this fall
Three students from the UC Clermont Respiratory Care Program have won Ohio’s 2023 Sputum Bowl, an annual trivia-style collegiate competition focused on respiratory care.
The competition took place July 10 at the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Competing for the UC Clermont “Booger Busters” was Cailey Fritz, Kennadi Harris and Bri Haun. Student Ayat Zeidan was on the injured reserve list and cheered on her team from Cincinnati.
The competition began weeks prior, as the students studied and prepped for the competition ahead. Starting early on game day, the team utilized all breaks throughout the conference to practice, as Instructor-Educator and Coach Kim Buschmeier drilled the team with questions.

The UC Clermont team defeated The PEEP Squad, a four-student team from the respiratory care bachelor’s degree program at Kent State University, in the championship game.
The UC Clermont team will now compete in the National Sputum Bowl Competition at the American Association for Respiratory Care National Congress, held in Nashville, Tennessee, in November.
"Winning this competition proved to me that UC Clermont's respiratory program is one of the top programs in the state," said the team's Coach/Instructor-Education Kimberly Buschmeier. "Our students have the knowledge, skills and grit to compete against programs from all over the country."
