Physician-turned-artist shares pandemic-inspired pastels at UC Clermont

Reception to be held on campus Oct. 18; show runs through Dec. 14

Artist Saad Ghosn will share his pastel and woodcut-print exhibit, “Circles and Circles,” Sept. 18-Dec. 14 in the University of Cincinnati Clermont College Art Gallery. The exhibit will kick off with an opening reception Wednesday, Oct. 18, from noon–1 p.m.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Ghosn, a native of Lebanon, is a retired medical professional and UC College of Medicine professor emeritus who has lived in Cincinnati since 1985. For the past decade, he has used his art images as vehicles for his social and political views and beliefs. Using black and white woodcut prints allows Ghosn to utilize the direct starkness of a simplified image to convey his message.

Throughout a year of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghosn began focusing on the shape of the circle. For him, circles presented the connectedness he was lacking during the solitude of the pandemic.

“My exhibit is dedicated to all those who suffered and died during the pandemic,” Ghosn said. “To those who offered love and compassion, lent a helping and comforting hand; to those who reminded us of the essential values of spirituality and free giving, and who, by so doing, planted seeds for a better world.”

The UC Clermont Art Gallery is located in the Snyder building on the college’s campus at 4200 Clermont College Drive, Batavia, Ohio. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., or by appointment. Learn more at ucclermont.edu/community-arts.
