UC among Ohio universities with record-breaking enrollment, according to fall data
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports UC, OSU, Bowling Green lead the pack with growth
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that several Ohio universities have announced record-setting enrollment figures this fall, thanks to particularly large freshman classes, according to institutional data. It's a sign some experts say bodes well in a confusing higher education landscape on the precipice of massive change.
The University of Cincinnati exceeded its projected enrollment with 53,235 students for fall semester 2024, smashing last year's record enrollment by 4.5%. UC officials said earlier this year that growth is driven by online, transfer and returning students, as well as its College Credit Plus program, which allows high schoolers to receive college credit before graduating high school.
Ohio State and Bowling Green universities have also reported record enrollments for the fall. Other Ohio schools — Ohio Wesleyan University, Franklin University, Wilberforce University, Kent State University and Ohio University — have also reported growths in enrollment this year.
National data about the fall semester’s enrollment is still weeks away, but early signs suggest a modest but encouraging rebound in undergraduate enrollment. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, undergraduate enrollment nationwide increased 1.2% last fall. Enrollment bumped up again in spring 2024 by 2.5% compared to the previous spring semester.
