What to expect now in U.S. foreign policy
UC professor talks to French outlet about American foreign policy
The French news outlet La Liberté spoke to a University of Cincinnati professor about what to expect from American foreign policy under President Donald Trump.
The outlet said Trump is returning to his role as a “slayer of the international system.“ They predicted normalized relations between Arab countries and Israel similar to what was seen during Trump's first term with the Abraham Accords.
Other topics to watch include the future of NATO and the impact of tariffs on Europe.
While the United States wants to see an end to Russia's war in Ukraine, it might not be on Ukraine's terms.

“Clearly an ally of Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump will not be a peacemaker in Ukraine,“ UC College of Arts and Sciences Professor Jeffrey Blevins told La Liberté.
Blevins teaches in UC's School of Public and International Affairs. He is co-author of the 2024 book “Social Media and Digital Politics: Networked Reason in an Age of Digital Emotion.”
Blevins said predicting where the new administration will focus its attention next is difficult, but U.S. interests will continue to carry extensive influence in global affairs.
“We must take Trump seriously,“ Blevins told La Liberté. “The situation will be different this time, not only because he benefits from real political legitimacy, from experience in power, but also because he did so despite all the legal challenges he has been subjected to. He has a fierce desire to shake up the international system to 'make America great again.'“
