UC students plan free pop-up medical clinic
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to partner for event later this month
The University of Cincinnati's chapter of Remote Area Medical, in collaboration with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, will host a clinic at St. Xavier High School on July 19-20.
The free medical clinic will start at 6 a.m. both days. The school is located at 600 W. North Bend Road.
Recently, UC's RAM student leaders appeared on WLWT-TV News 5 ahead of the event. UC students are involved in all aspects of planning for the annual clinic.
Zohair Siddiqui, an undergraduate student who plans to pursue medical school, is the UC chapter president of RAM. He explained what the clinic offers to Tristate residents:
"It's no strings attached, free care. So, you don't have to bring insurance, no ID required, and you can get medical, vision and dental care. So, that means x-rays, tooth extractions," Siddiqui said. "You can get your eyes tested, as well as actually getting glasses from your prescriptions that were done on site. So, we make the glasses right there, and you can get them the same day that your got your prescription."
Kevin Krebs, an undergraduate student who also plans to pursue medical school, serves as the RAM UC chapter vice president. He had this advice for those considering going to the clinic:
"Get there as early as you can. It's first come, first served. So, we take fully walk-ins. We even have patients sometimes come the night before, so they make sure they get their spot in line, because we don't want to turn anyone away," Krebs said. "We want to make sure everyone gets the care that they need. So, get there as early as you can."
Remote Area Medical is a nonprofit started in 1985. The organization hosts pop-up medical clinics across the country.
Student organizers are still looking for additional volunteer medical providers, particularly optometrists and dentists.
