UC dining halls designed with creating community in mind
Building Design + Construction magazine features UC’s MarketPointe and On the Green dining halls as examples of student spaces on college campuses that help create a sense of community. The magazine story was written by Greg Pinter and Zachary Zettler, both architects at GBBN, a multinational architecture and design firm.
“Specific design strategies can help students—especially first-year students or introverted students—feel less exposed and vulnerable entering the dining space,” Pinter and Zettler wrote in the magazine article. “These strategies include creating transitions, seating choices, and leveraging location.”
MarketPointe is a 37,000 foot state-of-the-art dining facility located in Calhoun Hall that offers eight dining stations that put students at the center of a culinary food hall experience. On the Green is located in Marian Spencer Hall and is an all-you-care-to-eat dining facility that also offers eight dining stations, providing comfort food classics, made-to-order stir-fry and pasta, homemade soups, fresh salads with local greens, and in-house baked desserts.
