UC Blue Ash to host free dental care clinic
Community Dental Day to be held March 6
Community Dental Day provides valuable experience for UC Blue Ash students in the dental hygiene and EFDA programs.
The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College will host its annual Community Dental Day on Friday, March 6, to provide free dental care to adults ages 18 and older.
Registration for Community Dental Day will begin at 7:30 a.m., with patient care provided from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will take place in the Dental Hygiene Clinic in Walters Hall on the UC Blue Ash campus.
The UC Blue Ash Community Dental Day was created in 2016 to help address the growing need for dental care among underserved populations throughout the region. It is hosted by the UC Blue Ash dental hygiene and expanded function dental assistant (EFDA) programs.
This year, 12 local dentists and approximately 10 dental care professionals will join dozens of UC Blue Ash faculty, staff and students from the dental hygiene and EFDA programs to volunteer their time and expertise. Services provided will include free oral health exams and restorative dental care.
Each year, local dentists and dental care professionals volunteer their time and talent to support the UC Blue Ash Community Dental Day.
This year marks the first Community Dental Day in the newly-renovated UC Blue Ash Dental Hygiene Clinic featuring 34 patient care stations and the latest equipment.
Each participant may receive one free service: a filling, tooth extraction or cleaning. Patients are encouraged to arrive early, as registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and all participants must arrive before noon to be registered. Certain health conditions may prevent treatment. Additional information is available on the Community Dental Day website.
The Henry Schein Group and Healthsource Ohio are sponsors for this year’s Community Dental Day. Since its inception, the event has provided free restorative care to 1,046 patients, representing more than $310,000 in dental services.
“We’re so grateful to the talented volunteers and generous sponsors who make this special event possible each year,” said UC Blue Ash Dental Hygiene Program Director Luke Burroughs. “There is more need than ever to provide free or affordable access to high-quality dental care, and we’re proud to continue to play a part in addressing that need through Community Dental Day.”
The Hamilton County 513 Relief Bus will also be on campus during Community Dental Day to provide attendees with information about resources and social services available in Hamilton County.
The UC Blue Ash Dental Hygiene Clinic is the largest of its kind in Ohio. It was renovated last summer and features 34 patient care stations equipped with the latest technology and dental care equipment.
