CityBeat tackles indie horror game based on Crosley Tower

Demolition continues on 16-story building

CityBeat writer Nadya Ellerhorst tried out a a new indie horror game set in the University of Cincinnati's iconic Crosley Tower, which is under demolition.

“The Crosley Tower Horror“ is a first-person, single-player game in which you explore 16 dark and abandoned floors of Crosley Tower in search of a MacGuffin, a sphere that will help complete an important science experiment.

The game's science objective is fitting for a building that for the past 57 years was home to classrooms and labs in chemistry, physics, biology and geosciences, among others.

The game, the second title made by developer Ithinknotm8, is available on Steam for $1.99.

After playing the game, Ellerhorst gave it a positive review as “pleasantly creepy.“ The game adds to Crosley Tower's long history of cultural relevance for its polarizing Brutalist architecture.

CityBeat also highlighted the work of UC College-Conservatory of Music graduate Annie Thompson, who produced a short film about Crosley Tower for her senior capstone project.

And CityBeat spoke to UC College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning student Juju Stojanovic about her Crosley-inspired typeface. She, too, dedicated her capstone to the imposing tower in a 372-page book titled “Ode to Crosley“ that contains stories, photos, remembrances and artistic tributes from more than 100 people.
