Free Thanksgiving meal offered to College of Arts and Sciences students
College of Arts and Sciences will host its first A&S Thanksgiving on Nov. 20
For students who may be missing home this holiday season, the College of Arts and Sciences is filling hearts and bellies later in November.
Organizer and staff member Shannon Memory said right now, around 90 students, faculty and staff at the University of Cincinnati plan to attend. Memory first started the program at UC's Carl H. Lindner College of Business last year and brought it to Arts and Sciences this year. Arts and Sciences students, faculty and staff can sign up through Nov. 6.
Memory said her favorite part of sharing a meal is asking students where they consider to be home.
“A lot of students don’t have an opportunity to celebrate with family, because family is far away whether that’s a different country or locally, and some people consider the people here their family, like staff, faculty and peers,” said Memory.
She said staff will serve the students a traditional American Thanksgiving meal, to include turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn and green beans. The event will be held in Tangeman University Center in 400 A, B, and C from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
“It is my favorite thing I’ve done since I’ve worked at UC," said Memory. " Seeing the joy it brought people and seeing students try our foods for the first time was awesome.”
The gathering space will be festively decorated. There will be trivia in addition to the free meal. Arts and Sciences community members should submit an RSVP by Nov. 6 to reserve a spot at the event.
