McMicken Expands Mission to Include Evenings and Saturdays
Today's students have spoken. They told us they no longer see college as a 9 to 3 experience. They want and need high-quality educational programs to be available during the day, the evening, and on saturdays. Therefore, McMicken College is expanding its offerings so that courses and degree programs will be available to both traditional and non-traditional students from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturdays too.
As part of an ongoing effort to serve students better, the University of Cincinnati is reorganizing its colleges and academic programs. The university recognizes the need to operate around-the-clock in order to meet the needs of students in the new century.
Anthony Perzigian, Senior Vice President and Provost for Baccalaureate and Graduate Education, has noted that while there was once a need for a separate night college serving a specialized student population, today's students see education as an activity that goes on around the clock. "English literature shouldn't be any different at 8 p.m. than it is at 8 a.m.," Perzigian said, "because the students have the same capabilities and goals."
"Business leaders continually call for college graduates who have the analytical and creative capabilities provided by a liberal education," President Joseph Steger said. "By concentrating the liberal arts in one college that delivers instruction day and night, from entry-level to completion, we will strengthen the place of the liberal arts at UC and bring heightened attention to the core liberal arts values and experience that UC wants to promote."
