Forum: Combat Date Rape Drugs

WHAT: Forum on Combating Club and Predatory Drugs

COST: Free and open to all. Students, staff, faculty and community members welcome. Increase your knowledge about these dangerous drugs and discuss how to help students avoid or minimize exposure.

SPONSORS: The UC Women's Center in conjunction with the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Drug Enforcement Office and the Coalition for a Drug Free Greater Cincinnati

SUBJECT: This town hall forum will discuss drugs such as Ecstasy MDMA), Ketamine (Special K), Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and other dangerous club and predatory drugs which are being used throughout Ohio. The use of these drugs is escalating both for recreational purposes and to facilitate sexual assaults.

BACKGROUND: Some sexual assault centers are reporting as much as a 50% increase in sexual assaults in urban areas and college campuses attributable to predatory drugs. Nationally less than 38% of all sexual assaults are reported to the police.

Jude Schramm, Bus, ’97 and Kristen Schramm, Bus, ’96, grew up in neighboring southeast Ohio towns. They started dating in high school, but that was not their first connection. When Kristen’s brother, David Sutton, was born with Down syndrome, the pediatrician connected her mother with Jude’s. His nine-year-old sister, Erin Marie Schramm, also had Down syndrome.
