UC's Former First Lady Honored
More than 140 people gathered May 27 to honor Bea Winkler, former first lady of the University of Cincinnati and long-time president of the Friends of Judaic Studies.
The Department of Judaic Studies and the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences hosted the tribute recognizing Mrs. Winklers work on behalf of Judaic Studies for the past 20 years. The event was held at the Myers Alumni Center.
Bea is a true Eshet Hayyil, Woman of Valor, said Steve Fine, department head and holder of the Jewish Foundation chair in Judaic Studies at UC. Because Mrs. Winkler had indicated she wanted no gifts or baubles Fine announced that he was dedicating, in her name, a scholarly article to be published in the Journal of Jewish Studies.
