In Memoriam: Political Science's Paul Power

Paul Power, professor emeritus of political science, passed away at his home on July 9, 2004. He taught at UC for more than two decades.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Power served in World War II and later earned his degrees at Yale and New York University. He was instrumental in the founding of Amnesty International and volunteered in several local arts organizations and social agencies.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, three sons, and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund or to a charity of choice.

Ancient Maya blessed their ballcourts

Using environmental DNA analysis, researchers identified a collection of plants used in ceremonial rituals in the ancient Maya city of Yaxnohcah. The plants, known for their religious associations and medicinal properties, were discovered beneath a plaza floor upon which a ballcourt was built, suggesting the building might have been blessed or consecrated during construction.
