Fashion Students Set a Pattern of Winning Ways

University of Cincinnati fashion design juniors Jay Ott, 22, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Dong Eun Kim, of Daegu, Korea, were just named winners in a national scholarship competition sponsored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Each won by designing a fashion collection, sketching their concepts and detailing how – technically – the garments would be produced.  It’s not the first time that Kim’s work has received national attention.  In 2003, he was one of a handful of fashion students chosen to represent the U.S. at Paris’

International Competition of Young Fashion Designers

“The awards are indeed prestigious because the Council of Fashion Designers of America includes the country’s top designers judging the work of students,” explained Margie Voelker-Ferrier, coordinator of UC’s fashion design program, part of the top-ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

The UC students were two of ten winners nationally, all of whom will be able to use their winnings for senior-year tuition.  The schools represented among the top-ten winners were

• University of Cincinnati
• Academy of Art University, San Francisco
• Otis College of Art & Design, Pasadena
• Parsons School of Design, New York City

Others invited to participate in the competition included
