Take a Walk on the WILD Side: Women in Leadership Development Holds Open House

On Monday, Oct. 17, the Women’s Institute for Leadership Development will host an Open House at the Cincinnati Faculty Club to kick off their two women’s leadership programs: one with all internal women and one with the Higher Education Collaborative of Greater Cincinnati. (Other regional institutions will participate in the program of a similar nature.) In 2004 UC reached out to the community and organized the Higher Education Collaborative of Greater Cincinnati. Five other regional institutions have participated in the establishment of a regional network of women in higher education.

Eligible for the program are women who have been at the university for three years and have a master's degree or similar professional credential (such as professional engineer or certified public accountant). Faculty should have a rank of associate professor, or higher, and be tenure or clinical track. Women administrators should be at the director level or higher.

Guest speakers at the Open House will describe the programs to be offered in the current academic year. Applications for the programs will be available.

The primary objective of the Women's Institute for Leadership Development was to increase the number of high-level women administrators at the university. The WILD idea developed from an on-campus conference session that explored the reasons for and impact of the relatively few women in central administration at our university. In 1999, women comprised just 18.7 percent of the deanships and 0 percent of the vice-presidents and provosts at UC.
