Brett Wins Prestigious Humboldt Award
The Alexander Humboldt Foundation has notified Carl Brett that he is the recipient of a Humboldt Research Award, which is given to fund prolonged periods of research in collaboration with colleagues in Germany and is granted in recognition of past achievements in research and teaching.
He will work with colleagues at Senckenberg in Frankfurt on a project comparing sea level and climate changes in fossils from approximately 350 million years ago to determine if they coincide and are global or are instead local phenomena. Brett and his German colleagues are conducting their research primarily in Morocco and the Czech Republic, as well as Germany and the United States. Thus far the changes they are observing appear to be similar in various locations.
Brett said of the recognition, I am, of course, very honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award; it is good especially because of the closer collaboration it will make possible. I look forward to a highly enjoyable and productive association with German colleagues over the next several years."

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
