UC Law School Grads Perform Best in State on February Bar Exam

Graduates from the University of Cincinnati College of Law performed better than those from any of Ohio’s eight other law schools in results from the latest Ohio Bar Exam.

Graduates from UC passed the February 2006 exam at an overall rate of 89 percent. That compares to a statewide average pass rate of 64 percent. First-time test takers from UC passed the February Bar at an 88 percent clip, tying with Case Western for top marks in that category.

"We are pleased to see our graduates perform well in this most demanding test of their preparation for a legal career," said UC College of Law Dean Louis D. Bilionis. "We believe the personalized education we provide in our unique setting as one of the nation’s top small public law schools compares favorably to our top peers in the state of Ohio and across the country."

February is one of two occasions during the year when the Ohio Bar Exam is offered. Traditionally it has lower numbers of participants than the July exam, which draws many recent spring graduates from Ohio’s law schools.

This year’s graduating class at the UC College of Law has 122 members. Their academic careers will come to a close on Saturday, May 20, when the college holds its 173rd annual Hooding Ceremony.

Many of those graduates will then go into an intense period of preparation before taking the July 2006 Ohio Bar Exam, scheduled to be administered from July 25-27.
