UC College of Law Closes Academic Year with 173rd Annual Hooding Ceremony
The UC College of Law will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2006 when it convenes its 173rd annual Hooding Ceremony on Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at the Aronoff Center in downtown Cincinnati. A total of 123 students are expected to participate.
UC College of Law Dean Louis D. Bilionis, who joined the colleges faculty last summer, will be presiding over the ceremony for the first time. UC President Nancy L. Zimpher and UC Board of Trustees member Buck Niehoff will also be making remarks.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. John D. Altenburg, Jr., a member of the colleges Class of 1973, will be the featured speaker. Altenburg is a partner in the Washington, D.C., firm of Greenburg & Traurig, and is also presiding over the enemy combatant tribunal process at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Nicholas Longworth Award, presented by the graduating class to an alumnus they admire, will go to Tracy B. Cook, Class of 1990. Shes the executive director of ProKids, Inc., a Cincinnati organization that advocates in the legal system on behalf of children.
College of Law professors Kristin Brandser, Tom Eisele and Suja Thomas have been selected by the graduates to award the hoods. Professors Emily Houh, Christo Lassiter and William Rands will also be recognized as this year's winners of the Goldman Prize for excellence in teaching.
The UC College of Law has been educating students since 1833, making it the nation's fourth-oldest continually operating law school.
