“Sex Differences in Cognitive Abilities: Was Larry Summers Right?”

Diane F. Halpern is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Berger Institute for Work, Family, and Children at Claremont McKenna College. She received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. Temple University and an M.A. and her Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

Halpern is past president of the American Psychological Association (2004) and the Western Psychological Association (1999-2000). She has won many awards for her teaching and research, including the 2002 Outstanding Professor Award from the Western Psychological Association, the 1999 American Psychological Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching and the 1996 Distinguished Career Award for Contributions to Education given by the American Psychological Association.

Much of Dr. Halpern's recent work has been in the application of learning principles in settings where real people learn and in enhancing critical thinking skills. She has written or co-edited many books, including "Thought and Knowledge: An Introduction to Critical Thinking" (4th edition), "Sex Differences in Cognitive Abilities" (3rd edition), "States of Mind: American and Post-Soviet Perspectives on Contemporary Issues in Psychology" and "Applying the Science of Learning to University Teaching."
