Stuck on a Subject? Late at Night? UC Students Can Now Get Tutoring Online, Anytime

A new online tutoring service for students at the University of Cincinnati is creating a 24/7 campus and placing students at the center of the university – goals of the UC|21 Strategic Plan. The service, SMARTHINKING, provides online tutors for students and also features an online writing lab.

SMARTHINKING, based in Washington, D.C., is an online tutoring service offered through the Ohio Learning Network, a consortium of Ohio colleges and universities (including UC) that uses technology to enhance education.

Alsace Toure, director of the UC Learning Assistance Center, says SMARTHINKING tutors have substantial tutoring and teaching experience, and usually have an advanced degree. “By offering tutoring online through SMARTHINKING, UC is making convenient and easy-to-use assistance available to students regardless of the time of day or their location,” Toure says. “The service is especially helpful to commuters, distance-learning students, students studying late at night, and other students who may not be able to schedule a face-to-face tutoring session in our Learning Assistance Center.”

The online tutoring service offers assistance in the following subjects:

  • Math
  • Writing
  • Spanish
  • Chemistry
  • Introductory finance
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Economics
  • Introductory anatomy & physiology
  • Accounting
  • Statistics

The Learning Assistance Center will host a SMARTHINKING informational luncheon from noon-1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3, in Room 310 (multipurpose room) of University Pavilion. Reservations for the luncheon can be made online by filling out the workshop registration form and checking off the date for the luncheon below the form.
