UC Grad Links Success to Solid BRICK Program Foundation

In the midst of the crowd gathered for the Dec. 9 UC commencement ceremony, Cleveland native Robert Grice had a healthy cheering section of his own.

The newly minted UC graduate earned his bachelor's degree in French language and literature.

In addition to his mother, siblings, godmother and five best friends, 45 young men from schools in Cleveland’s inner city were on hand to cheer Grice on.

The group represents the BRICK Program, which stands for Brotherhood, Respect, Intelligence, Conduct and Knowledge.

Grice, who graduated in the top 5 percent of his class at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, is one of the high-profile success stories stemming from BRICK, which builds a network of social and academic support for youth age 11-19.
