Additional Traffic Restrictions Arrive Thursday as Part of Jefferson Avenue Project
Additional route changes associated with the City of Cincinnati's road improvement project centered around the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Vine Street/Jefferson Avenue will be implemented beginning Thursday, Jan. 25, at 9 a.m.
Beginning at that time, the section of Vine Street/Jefferson Avenue between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the south and Goodman Street/Nixon Connector to the north will be closed to all traffic
These additional lane closures are expected to last approximately three months.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions across Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Alternate routes as a result of this latest change suggested by the City of Cincinnati's Department of Transportation and Engineering include:
-
From eastbound Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to northbound Vine Street: Traffic will be detoured east of Vine Street to Eden Avenue. Traffic will proceed north on Eden to westbound Goodman Street. From Goodman, cars can access northbound Vine Street.
-
From northbound Jefferson Avenue to northbound Vine Street: Traffic will turn east onto MLK, Jr. Drive., then proceed to Eden Avenue. Traffic will proceed north on Eden to westbound Goodman Street. From Goodman, cars can access northbound Vine Street.
- From southbound Vine Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive: Traffic will turn east onto Goodman Street and south onto Eden Avenue. From Eden, cars can access Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Work on affected roadways is expected to be completed in August.
The city's goal with the project is to enhance traffic flow and safety for motorists at the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Vine Street/Jefferson Avenue intersection. As part of this project, the intersection will be reconstructed with concrete pavement at a higher elevation. This will improve sight distance along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Jefferson Avenue and Vine Street will all be paved and new curbs and sidewalks will be installed.
