2007 Faculty & Staff Excellence Awards: Nominations Deadline
Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 23, 2007, for Dean's Awards for Faculty Excellence and the McMicken Staff Excellence Award.
Faculty Excellence:
The Deans Awards for Faculty Excellence reinforce our professional purposes and encourage excellence in achievement and service to others. The nomination of an individual for a Dean's Award may be initiated by any colleague in the College. Awards will be presented at the McMicken College Awards Dinner on May 3, 2007.

Staff Excellence:
The McMicken Excellence Award recognizes a full-time staff or administrative employee of McMicken College of Arts and Sciences who performs beyond the ordinary expectations. The nomination of an individual for this award may be initiated by any staff member or faculty member in the College. The award will be presented at the McMicken College Awards Dinner on May 3, 2007.

Ancient Maya blessed their ballcourts

Using environmental DNA analysis, researchers identified a collection of plants used in ceremonial rituals in the ancient Maya city of Yaxnohcah. The plants, known for their religious associations and medicinal properties, were discovered beneath a plaza floor upon which a ballcourt was built, suggesting the building might have been blessed or consecrated during construction.
