TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Northbound Stretch of Vine Set to Reopen on April 11

The following information comes from an advisory about the Vine Street construction project issued by the City of Cincinnati's Department of Transportation and Engineering:

Northbound Vine Street between Nixon/Goodman Streets and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive will reopen beginining Wednesday, April 11.

This portion of the construction area has been closed most of this year. However, southbound Vine Street through this stretch will remain closed in this area for the next phase of construction, expected to last about one month.

Two lanes of traffic will remain open in both directions on MLK, Jr. Drive during this phase. The existing detours for how traffic will access, exit and cross MLK, Jr. Drive will remain as follows:

  • From MLK, Jr. Drive to northbound Vine Street: Traffic will now be able to access northbound Vine Street from MLK, Jr. Drive.
  • From northbound Jefferson Avenue to northbound Vine Street: Traffic will turn east onto MLK, Jr. Drive, then proceed to Eden Avenue. Traffic will proceed north on Eden to westbound Goodman Street. From Goodman, cars can access northbound Vine Street.
  • From southbound Vine Street to MLK, Jr. Drive: Traffic will turn east onto Goodman Street and south onto Eden Avenue. From Eden, cars can access MLK, Jr. Drive.

The City of Cincinnati is improving MLK, Jr. Drive in order to enhance traffic flow and safety for motorists at the intersection with Jefferson Avenue and Vine Street. As part of this project, the MLK, Jr. Drive intersection with Jefferson Avenue and Vine Street will be reconstructed with concrete pavement at a higher elevation. This will improve sight distance along MLK, Jr. Drive. Also, MLK, Jr. Drive, Jefferson Avenue and Vine Street will be paved and new curbs and sidewalks will be installed.

This latest change in traffic flow will begin on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 9 a.m. This phase of the project will last approximately one month; however, some of these detours are expected to be maintained until August 2007.
