Records Workshops Help Offices Keep The Law and Order

The University Records Management Program is presenting two workshops this month as an introduction and review of records management. The workshops will take place from 10 a.m.-noon, on Thursday, May 17, and on Thursday, May 24, in the reading room located in UC’s Archives & Rare Books Department, eighth floor, Blegen Library.

Janice Schulz, university records manager, says the University Records Management Program was established in 1979 in accordance with state and federal law. Schulz works with units across the university to create retention schedules that are followed by the records coordinators of those offices. Once offices are clear on records management, the records officers can tell what needs to be destroyed, what needs to be saved, and what can be cleared out of offices and housed elsewhere, such as archives.

The workshops are free but registration is required. For more information on the workshops, go to: http://www.libraries.uc.edu/libraries/arb/records_management/workshops.html

The updated Records Management Web also holds valuable information on policies and procedures, records storage, e-mail management and downloadable forms. The Web site is accessible from the Archives and Rare Books Web site or at:
