We re All UC Campaign Runs Through June 30
The University of Cincinnatis third-annual Were All UC Campaign was officially launched by UC President Nancy L. Zimpher on May 1 during a reception in Tangeman University Center. The campaign will include contributions made from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. Each year, the campaign has exceeded goals of participation of faculty, staff and administrators in this opportunity to give back to the university. Last years campaign raised $8.9 million and recruited 855 new donors.
The Were All UC campaign emphasizes participation over gift size. UC Foundation reports more than 9,000 faculty members, adjunct faculty, staff workers and retirees will be contacted about the campaign in the near future. Donors can choose to contribute among hundreds of funds, ranging from supporting UC|21 to backing their favorite college or department, scholarships, medical research or athletics. In most cases, the gifts are 100-percent tax deductible.
President Zimpher announced a new fund that can be supported by the Were All UC Campaign, a fund to build an endowment in support of the Faculty Service Award. The announcement came on the day of the 2007 Faculty Awards Ceremony.
The honorary co-chairs for the campaign are Cora Ogle, Research Professor, Department of Surgery; William Heineman, University Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Chemistry, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences; and Dottie Stover, photojournalist for University Relations.

Growing up on Ludlow Ave. in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Clifton, Harrison Fowler had planned to enroll in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Cincinnati. UC was close to home, and ROTC seemed like the right choice. But life had other plans. At the last minute, Fowler withdrew from ROTC and enrolled to earn his bachelor’s in Spanish, which meant he needed a study-abroad experience to complete his degree. He was apprehensive, but completed his requirement in Madrid, in a move that would change the direction of his life. Says Fowler of his foreign-language major, and his experience abroad: “Speaking another language opens up a whole other world and relationships for you.”
