UC Authors Featured at Cincinnati Book Festival
Local authors affiliated with the University of Cincinnati will be featured at the inaugural Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival, which takes place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Duke Energy Center downtown. All events at the festival are free and open to the public.
The day-long festival will feature more than 85 regional and national authors of fiction, history, mystery, biography, travel, non-fiction, childrens literature and more. University of Cincinnati Libraries is one of the organizers of this day-long celebration of the book.
The UC-affiliated authors featured at the Books by the Banks festival include the following UC faculty and librarians:
Brock Clarke, associate professor of English and Comparative Literature, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, author of An Arsonists Guide to Writers Homes in New England, which received a glowing review in The New York Times.
Cincinnati Boxing
Kevin Grace, UC head of Archives & Rare Books and adjunct assistant professor for the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. Grace and his son, Joshua, co-authored Cincinnati Boxing, which looked beyond the controversy of the sport and conveyed its place in Cincinnati history.
Michael Griffith, associate professor of English and comparative literature, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, author of the critically acclaimed Bibliophilia: A Novella and Stories.
Nathan Singer, adjunct instructor of English and communication, Raymond Walters College, author of Chasing the Wolf.
Don Heinrich Tolzmann, retired senior librarian, author of German Cincinnati.
Cincinnati Cemeteries
Tom White, head of the monographs department and assistant head of the technical services team for University Libraries, who with Kevin Grace, co-authored Cincinnati Cemeteries: The Queen City Underground.
Book-signings, panel presentations and readings will be featured throughout the day of the festival.
A Books by the Banks exhibit is now on display on the fourth floor lobby of Langsam Library. The display highlights some of the authors who will be featured at the festival.
Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival is a joint effort of University of Cincinnati Libraries, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, the Mercantile Library, CET, Cincinnati Magazine and Borders Books.
The Books by the Banks Web site has information on all of the authors scheduled to appear at the event, as well as directions and parking information.

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.

This wasn’t just any day on the greens, though – this was the inaugural Ed Latessa Memorial Golf Tournament.
