VIDEO: UC s Greek Organizations Transcend Fundraising Goal

A Disney-themed Greek Week at the University of Cincinnati raised $33,000 to grant the wishes of four area children sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation – $8,000 beyond the fundraising goal of $25,000 for UC’s Greek Week April 12-19.

UC freshman Sara McRoberts, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and international affairs major from Mount Orab, Ohio, was one of the Greek members to brave the dunk tank.

Eric Langevin, assistant division director of donor recruitment and community relations for Hoxworth Blood Center, adds that Hoxworth also benefited from Greek Week, as 87 donors donated 74 units of blood to the Order of Omega Blood Drive to benefit the Greater Cincinnati tristate region. Those contributions could benefit 222 people in the community.

The news was announced at the Greek Awards Banquet on April 22. The top two fundraisers were Kappa Delta Sorority, which raised $4,269.72, and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, which raised $2,556.00. The sorority that scored the most points during Greek Week was Kappa Kappa Gamma and the top-scoring fraternity was Sigma Phi Epsilon.

The 2008 Greek Week fundraiser also surpassed the record of $22,000 that Greek organizations raised as part of Greek Week 2007.
