From communication degree to corporate entrepreneur
UC grad recognized with A&S Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Many communication and public relations majors have careers in mind before they graduate from college, but few may aspire to careers in logistics. But Nick Reasoner, who graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences with degrees in both, forged his path there, and went on to found TransLoop, an award-winning third-party logistics firm.
Headquartered in Chicago, TransLoop now has five additional locations, from Nashville to Ft. Lauderdale to Denver. Since its founding, the company has taken the number 12 spot on Inc. 5000’s list of Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, and Reasoner has been named to Business Elite’s 40 Under 40. TransLoop was also recently named a Top 100 Freight Brokerage Firm by Transport Topics.

For this meteoric career trajectory, Reasoner has been recognized with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from UC's College of Arts and Sciences.
The award is given to an alumnus under the age of 40 for significant achievements within their chosen field of endeavor, and who is actively involved with UC.
“I owe a lot of thanks and recognition to the university in total—I would not be where I am today without the University of Cincinnati,” he said.
During Reasoner’s time at UC, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Phi Rho Chi Honorary Fraternity.
One of his most impactful student experiences was his internship at TQL, which led to a full-time position upon graduation.

After a seven-year career with TQL, Reasoner joined FourKites to learn about enterprise transportation software within the logistics space. That opened his eyes to the lack of visibility within the transportation sector when using a freight broker, and the overall lack of reliable transportation providers in a massive market.
Reasoner went on to become founder and CEO of TransLoop, which connects shippers to qualified carriers, combining cutting-edge technology and proprietary carrier solutions with white-glove service to move business freight from point A to point B.
Over the last four years, TransLoop has received more than 30 awards as a logistics industry leader, and the company now exceeds yearly sales of $100 million and has taken on zero outside capital with no outside investors.
“I’m forever grateful to UC,” he said.

UC professor leads film students to the future

As a kid, at the age of 10, Marty Schiff’s dad gave him a Kodak Brownie movie camera, and that led to a lifetime of creating stories on film. He spent his summers with that camera, making eight-millimeter movies, with a camera that taught him how to thread a projector, change the film in a closet, and tell stories with the medium he loved. “I always wanted to go to Hollywood,” Schiff says. So later he did, with $200 in his pocket, and began a career that has spanned acting, directing, producing—pretty much everything with the exception of costumes (“I’m not really good with a sewing machine,” he says).
