Collins' appointment is effective Feb. 1, 2009, pending approval by the UC Board of Trustees. Interim chairperson Mary Gaskill-Shipley, MD, will continue to lead the department through January 2009.

"I am delighted that Dr. Collins' is joining the College of Medicine leadership team," said David Stern, MD, vice president for health affairs at UC and dean of the college. A respected educator and clinician, she also serves in national leadership roles including her current role as president of the Society of Thoracic Radiologists and chair of the American Roentgen Ray Society maintenance of certification committee and Radiological Society of North America education refresher course.

She serves or has served in a primary editor capacity with the American Journal of Radiology, Academic Radiology, Journal of American College of Radiology and Seminars in Roentgenology. She is also a peer reviewer for nine radiology-focused medical journals and serves on the editorial board of Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology.

Collins received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio where she was ranked first in a class of 120. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Wisconsin, and a thoracic imaging fellowship at Yale University. In addition to her clinical training, she completed one-year fellowships in medical education research, radiology journalism and executive leadership in academic medicine.

A clinician-scientist, Collins has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and
