December 2008 All-University Commencement

The University of Cincinnati holds its All-University Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. This marks the fourth year for this December ceremony to recognize students who completed their degrees last summer or this fall.

Over that time period, 2,452 students applied for graduation for 2,476 academic degrees, including

  • 306 associate degrees
  • 1,073 baccalaureate degrees
  • 937 master’s degrees
  • 160 doctoral or professional degrees, including law (4) and medicine (1)

There are 83 degrees to be awarded cum laude, meaning the graduates had a university grade point average between 3.60 and 3.7499.

There are 75 degrees to be awarded magna cum laude, representing a university grade point average between 3.75 and 3.8999.

There are 55 degrees to be awarded summa cum laude, representing a GPA netween 3.90 and 4.000.

The oldest graduate, earning a master’s degree via distance learning, is 70 years old. The youngest graduates, one earning an associate’s degree and one earning a bachelor’s degree, are 18.

The number of females earning degrees is 1,336 (54.5 percent).
The number of males earning degrees is 1,116 (45.5 percent).

Thirteen percent of the graduates represent a minority group
American Indian: 0.5 percent
Asian: 2.4 percent
African-American: 8.6 percent
Hispanic: 1.5 percent

The graduates represent 47 countries including the U.S., as well as 46 states and Washington, D.C. States that are not represented in the graduating class are Arkansas, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont. Thirteen percent of the graduates report citizenship in a country other than the U.S.
