New TALX Service Improves Employment Verification

Throughout the year, many UC employees need to verify their employment or income.

“These requests come from mortgage applications, reference checks, loan applications, apartment leases or anything that requires proof of employment or income,” said Sharon Butler, assistant vice president of Human Resources.

Beginning Oct. 1, UC’s Human Resources Division has arranged for a new, easy and secure service to conveniently perform this task. The new service is called TALX-The Work Number. This automated service may be used by UC employees anytime and anywhere.

“The verification using TALX is typically turned around instantly,” Butler said. “This is the number one service used by mortgage companies, pre-employment screens, consumer finance and government agencies.”

To verify employment, the verifying agency need only go to the TALX Web site and enter the employee’s Social Security number.

If the verifying agency needs proof of income, UC employees can generate a numerical key or code that can be shared with anyone who needs to verify that employee’s salary. Once used, the key expires and the employee’s information remains secure.

For current UC employees, or any UC employee who left the university after Jan. 1, 2007, the TALX service provides a fast, easy and secure way to verify employment information. Those former employees who left UC before 2007 will still need to have Human Resources verify employment, Butler said.
