VIDEO: Triceracopter Lands at Langsam Library

It stretches out to a length of 30 feet and stands 13 feet tall.

“Triceracopter: Hope for the Obsolescence of War” is a sculpture crafted of fiberglass and built on the frame of a Vietnam-era U.S. Army OH6A/Cayuse helicopter.

It was completed in 1976 as the Vietnam War wound down and was first exhibited in 1977 by artist Pat Renick, a University of Cincinnati School of Art faculty member for 31 years, who passed away in 2007.

The work was the result of a three-year process involving the United States Army, Ford Motor Company and the Formica Corporation. According to one

, Renick described her motivation: "I was determined not to be among those rocking chair people on the front porch of the future saddened by what might have been. So I made a Triceracopter. It is as simple and as complex as that."

It was placed on permanent exhibit at UC’s Langsam Library over the holiday break.
