UC Clermont Basketball Teams Receive USCAA National Tournament Bids
The UC Clermont College mens and womens basketball teams each earned bids today to the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship Tournament being held from March 1-5 on the campus of Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, Penn.
The men will be making their sixth consecutive appearance while the women will be making their fourth appearance in a row. Congratulations and good luck to both teams in Uniontown, said Brian Sullivan, athletic director at UC Clermont College.
The bids top off an already good week for the teams. On Wednesday, the Cougars walked away with a lot of hardware at the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference awards banquet held at Southern State.
Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference awards for the women - First Team All Conference: Cayla Stutz, Second Team All Conference: Kayla Howard & Shannon Lorenz, Honorable Mention: Marisa Stutz & Portia Cochrum, Player of the Year: Cayla Stutz, and Coach of the Year: Mike Matthews.
For the men - First Team All Conference: Travis Donald & Nick Baynes, Honorable Mention: Tyler Knabb, Freshman of the Year: Tyler Knabb and Coach of the Year: John Hurley.
Being recognized by your peers is a very high honor especially in the conference where everyone battles twice a season. It has to be a great feeling to know you have earned their respect as a player and a person, said Sullivan.
