Charles Ginn, field service associate professor in the
in the University of Cincinnatis McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded the 2011 Ohio Faculty Innovator Award by the Ohio Board of Regents.
Ginn, with 14 other professors statewide, was named an innovator by the former Ohio chancellor of education Eric Fingerhut. The annual award, recognizing Ohio faculty finding creative ways to reduce the cost of course materials for students while improving educational content, was given to Ginn for
championing the Ohio Digital Bookshelf as research director of OhioLINKs eTextProject
.
His goal, Ginn says, is to provide low cost, or in some cases no cost access to quality learning materials online and in print to our students.
I was a first-generation college student from a working class family. My efforts are focused on ensuring other students have the same opportunities I received to attend a USO (University System of Ohio) institution. Unfortunately, textbooks now can cost as much asor more thantuition. That simply has to change, says Ginn.
It is very much an honor to receive this award, as there were many deserving candidates from across the state.
