UC Student-Organized Cincinnati Dance Marathon Declared a Success

Student organizers of the fourth-annual Cincinnati Dance Marathon are reporting growing success in the number of participants as well as dollars raised to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a member of the network.

Cincinnati Dance Marathon chair Chris Hais, a fifth-year UC finance major, says last weekend’s dance marathon in the Campus Recreation Center raised more than $26,000 and registered more than 820 dancers. Hais adds that student organizers are seeing a growing number of families taking part in the event.

The Children’s Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness for 170 pediatric hospitals, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Ancient Maya blessed their ballcourts

Using environmental DNA analysis, researchers identified a collection of plants used in ceremonial rituals in the ancient Maya city of Yaxnohcah. The plants, known for their religious associations and medicinal properties, were discovered beneath a plaza floor upon which a ballcourt was built, suggesting the building might have been blessed or consecrated during construction.
