Bearcats Bound Orientation For New UC Students Begins on June 21
Orientation Questions: 513-556-2486
UCs Bearcats Bound Orientation takes place from June 21 through Aug. 2, as first-year students begin their transformation from high school to college life.
Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, June 21, outside the Great Hall of Tangeman University Center (TUC). The official welcome gets underway at 9 a.m. As students enter the Great Hall, theyll walk through the Tunnel of Awesomeness created by 30 Student Orientation Leaders (SOLs) and six Student Orientation Coordinators who will lead families through orientation.
The incoming class will be the first group of freshmen in five decades to enter UC under a semester calendaring system, as UC joins other Ohio public universities in converting to semesters in accordance with the University System of Ohios strategic plan for higher education.
UC shifted from semesters to academic quarters in 1964 at the request of the Ohio Board of Regents, due to significant growth in the college-age population.
To address the needs of the current student population, semesters will allow for more in-depth teaching and classroom projects, greater opportunities for collaborative research, and will considerably open up study-abroad opportunities. In addition, students will graduate earlier in the year than under academic quarters, which will give them an early jump on the job market.
Early spring figures indicate that the freshman class will be slightly smaller than last years freshman class, but will continue gains in diversity and academic quality reflecting goals outlined in the UC2019 Strategic Plan to transform the university into one of the best academic institutions in the world.
.
Fall semester begins at UC on Monday, Aug. 27. UCs formal freshman Convocation welcoming ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, in Fifth Third Arena.
