* In May 1973 Velma Woodward Newhouse donated a buggy lantern to Clermont College owned by her paternal grandfather Dr. Josiah Woodward. Dr. Woodward owned some of the property on which the college is built and she believed he used to make house calls with that lantern. While there are many conflicting stories associated with the lantern, some of it folklore it is now inextricably associated with Clermont College and remains a vital symbol of light and Clermont Colleges connection to the history of Clermont County.
