UCIT Presents Microsoft Lync 2010 Workshops for Faculty and Staff
UC Information Technologies (UCIT) staff will lead hands-on demonstrations of Microsoft Lync 2010, the universitys new central instant messaging and conferencing solution, from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, in Room 112 Carl H. Lindner Hall (Carl H. Lindner College of Business) and from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, in 3051 Medical Sciences Building. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.
Microsoft Lync is an enterprise-ready unified communications platform. With Lync, faculty and staff can:
Send an instant message.
Start or join an audio, video or web conference.
Make a phone call to another Lync contact.
Share their desktops, programs, PowerPoints and much more.
We are currently using Lync for organizational chat, online meetings and screen-sharing, said Chris Edwards, assistant dean for Information Technology & Communications and director of the Center for Academic Technologies & Educational Resources (CATER) for the College of Nursing. Lync has already made a huge impact on the quality, quantity and timeliness of our communication. Moving forward, we will also be exploring the recording capabilities and how it interfaces with external partners, constituents and students.
UCIT introduced Lync as part of the upgrade of all faculty and staff e-mail boxes to the new Microsoft Exchange 2010 servers. Staff compiled a comprehensive list of FAQs with easy-to-follow instructions to help users take advantage of Lyncs many features.
