Seeing Is Believing: Professors Work Part of Photography Showcase

Stephanie Sadre-Orafai are involved in this months FOTOFOCUS celebration of photography. The lineup of independently programmed exhibitions of historical, contemporary and artistic photography is the first of what is intended to be a biennial showcase highlighting Cincinnatis artistic soul and creative energy.
FOTOFOCUS, a nonprofit arts organization, hopes to support photographys role in todays culture through events such as this months festivities. The series of parties, gallery showings and lectures will populate several venues throughout the Cincinnati area including at University of Cincinnati sites displaying the work of well-established artists and fresh faces on the photography scene for public viewing. Hughes and Sadre-Orafai are each connected to an event:
Artless Photographs
Sadre-Orafai and her colleague Lee Douglas of New York University curated this exhibit that explores documentary photos taken in a range of institutional contexts and the practices that produce them.
Images of the Great Depression: A Documentary Portrait of Ohio 1935-2010
Hughes was among a group of six photographers selected by the Ohio Humanities Council to conduct a re-photographic survey of Ohio sites documented as part of President Roosevelts New Deal in the 1930s.
Both exhibits will have receptions from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 12 at the UC College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Plannings Sycamore Gallery. The gallery will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays in October and by appointment.
