December 2012 All-University Commencement
The University of Cincinnati will hold Commencement exercises for summer and fall graduates at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, in Fifth Third Arena. The ceremony will include individual recognition of masters, baccalaureate and associate degree candidates.
UCs Office of Institutional Research reports that over summer and fall, 3,539 students applied for graduation, is up 926 more than 35 per cent from the same period last year.
The graduates represent 64 countries, 49 states (Delaware is not represented, nor is Washington, D.C.) and 67 Ohio counties. Their average age is 29.
Applications for degrees total 3,568, as some graduates earn more than one degree. Total degree applications include:
449 associate degrees
1,557 baccalaureate degrees
1,352 masters degrees
210 doctoral or professional degrees
There are 109 degrees to be awarded cum laude, meaning the graduates had a GPA between 3.60 and 3.7499.
There are 106 degrees to be awarded magna cum laude, representing a university GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999.
There are 65 degrees to be awarded summa cum laude, representing a GPA between 3.90 and 4.000.
The number of degrees representing science, technology, engineering, math and medical fields (STEMM) is 1,475, up 330 over the same period last year.
The number of veterans with degree applications for summer and fall is 127.
The number of UC graduates who are also graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools is 127.
The number of graduates who transferred to UC as undergraduates is 889.
The number of graduates who transitioned to UC from UC Blue Ash College and UC Clermont College is 738.
The number of graduates who earned their degrees through distance learning programs is 767. The number of graduates who took at least one distance learning course is 2,473.
The oldest graduate, earning a masters degree, is 65. The youngest graduate, earning an associate degree, is 18.
The number of females earning degrees is 1,998 (56.5 percent)
The number of males earning degrees is 1,541 (43.5 percent)
