Class of 2013 by the Numbers

The University of Cincinnati celebrates All-University Commencement during two ceremonies on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena.The Doctoral Hooding and Master’s Recognition Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 26, in Fifth Third Arena.

UC’s Office of Institutional Research reports that 6,258 students applied for graduation during spring semester. Factoring in semester conversion, the numbers include what would have been winter (March) and spring graduates (June) under the university’s former academic quarter system, whereas only spring quarter figures were reported last June (5,521).

The Class of 2013 is earning:

743 associate degrees
3,421 baccalaureate degrees
1,585 master’s degrees
303 doctoral degrees
312 professional degrees
Total degrees: 6,364

The Class of 2013 includes 3,920 graduates (62.6 percent) who received some form of institutional aid to support their education. It also includes 193 graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools; 1,351 students who transferred to UC; and 1,376 students who transitioned to the Uptown Campus from UC Clermont College and UC Blue Ash College.

The Class of 2013 includes 606 graduates of distance learning programs. Furthermore, 4,097 of the graduates reported taking at least one distance learning course.

Out of the total number of degrees, 2,979 are from fields in the science, technology, engineering, math and medical (STEMM) areas.

393 degrees will be awarded cum laude (representing a grade-point-average between 3.60 and 3.7499)

336 degrees will be awarded magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999)

148 degrees will be awarded summa cum laude (GPA between 3.9 and 4.0)

The average age of the spring semester graduate is 27. The youngest graduate is 19; the oldest graduate is 73.

Number of women earning degrees: 3,646 (58.3 percent)

Number of men earning degrees: 2,612 (41.7 percent)

The graduates represent 71 countries, 49 states (plus D.C.), and 82 Ohio counties (4,667 Ohio graduates). 13.6 percent of the graduates reflect a minority group. Ethnicities include:

Black: 7.7 percent

Asian: 3.7 percent

Hispanic: 2 percent

White: 74.5 percent

Represent a country other than the U.S.:  6.4 percent
