Kingsgate Conference Center s Renovation Efforts Unveiled

UC's Campus Services, in partnership with the department of Planning, Design, and Construction, recently completed a renovation at the Kingsgate Conference Center, owned by UC and operated by Marriott, on the medical campus. All 206 guest rooms and public spaces were renovated using eco-friendly initiatives.

Guest Rooms
The 198 hotel rooms and eight suites were designed and renovated for the unique needs of both business and leisure guests. Renovations include:

  • New bedding;
  • Wall vinyl with recycled material;
  • Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, eliminating dangerous fumes; 
  • Carpeting made of recycled material;
  • Energy efficient HVAC systems within each room;
  • Updated drapes, sheers, artwork, towel caddies, lamps, and telephones;
  • New furniture in the suites including couches and end tables made from recyclable materials;
  • Recycle containers in all guest rooms;
  • HD flat-screen TVs;
  • Complimentary wireless internet (100MBps) in all spaces; and
  • Water-conserving toilets, toilet paper and shower heads.

Public Spaces
Renovations in the public spaces of the conference center include:

  • Bearcat Lounge has been renovated with furniture that is both new and made of recycled material and its doors were removed for a more open feel for dining and meetings;
  • New high tops and communal tables made out of recycle materials were added in the lobby;
  • New televisions have been added to the Bearcat Lounge for guest enjoyment;
  • Outdoor, eco-friendly furniture was also added including chairs, couches and tables;
  • Electronic reader boards are being utilized across all hotel spaces, allowing for paperless communication throughout the hotel;
  • Re-covered dining chairs and re-furbished dining table tops in Caminetto Euro-American Bistro;
  • New lobby furniture, including carpet and artwork made of recycling material; and
  • Wall vinyl depicting murals of UC buildings on campus in vestibule;
