Interdisciplinary Team Works to Expand the American Trustee Project

Over 350 videos are competing in the Looking@Democracy challenge to bring attention to thoughts, perspectives and stories that are not highlighted in normal media conversation.

One of those entries comes from University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts & Sciences faculty and staff, who partnered with The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic life at the University of Texas. Their video, titled “Democracy by the People,” challenges Americans to find democracy in everyday life and share their stories with the public.

Project Director and Associate Professor of Communication Nancy Jennings took the lead on this project. Other faculty members involved include Assistant Professor William Jennings from UC Blue Ash College; Adjunct Instructor Michael Sharp, associate academic director in the Division of Professional Practice; Information Technology Manager in the Presentation Technologies and Service Group Kent Meloy, and Robert Jonason, educator assistant professor of journalism.

Because of their hard work and a funded grant from the Seasongood Good Government Foundation, they have been able to solicit nominations for three Ohio American Trustees. All previous American Trustees were from Texas.
